There are many types of fiber optic patch cords such as OM1, OM2, OM3, OM4 multimode fiber and OS2 single mode fiber types. Both the ends of the cable are terminated with high performance hybrid or single type connector. These cords are not rugged and they are suitable for internal use.

1. Choosing the connector type

Both the ends of fiber optic patch cord are terminated with fiber optic connector. Different connector is used for plugging different device. If the ports in the both ends devices are same, we can use LC-LC/ SC- SC/ MPO- MPO patch cables. If you want to connect different ports type devices, LC-SC/ LC-ST/ LC-FC patch cables may suit you.

2. Choose single or multimode cable type

The single-mode fiber patch cord uses 9/ 125 um glass fiber which multimode used 50/ 125 um or 62.5 / 125 um glass fiber. While the former is used in long distance data transmission, the latter is used in short distance transmission.
